Ian Connor Clayton Spencer, a chemical engineer, is diagnosed with cancer, and given only three years to live. Instead of being deeply saddened by this news, he decides to embark on a journey of the mind, in search of answers to life's deepest philosophical questions. He thinks he has found some of these answers, with the help of his physicist friend Lamar Curtis, his therapist Lucille Sullivan, and his wife Alice. Along the way, Clayton finds himself having numerous personal breakthroughs with his experience of practicing meditation, and while applying a basic understanding of Buddhist principles. As a result of developing a mind that is increasingly receptive to philosophical reasoning, Clayton focuses the time he has left on studying problems associated with existence, knowledge, morality, and consciousness. This new understanding proves to bring great joy for him, however, the ups and downs of these last years of Clayton's life, also comes with it, noticeable sadness, and perhaps a bit of irony. It is a normal response hardwired into our human condition, in which we find ourselves putting up great resistance to life's end, instead of sorting out the inevitable, to appreciate more of what being alive has to offer.
