Set in 17th century Japan, The Potter's Notebook is the twin story of two boys - Shuji, who aims to become a master potter - and Hideaki, sent from the modern day to help his friend achieve his quest. Aided in their journey by the mysticism of a kindly Abbot and an ethereal blue bird, Shuji and Hideaki battle supernatural and human foes to overcome obstacles that threaten their goal to create beauty in a harsh world. But the toughest obstacles prove to be within, as both boys must marshal the skills of discipline and perseverance, as well as the eclectic art of communion with the spirit world, to realize their aims.
