'Up in the press stand a hundred reporters and motoring correspondents were completing their dispatches in a dozen languages, their typewriters tapping out the final phrases honouring the gallant effort of the old Bentley. "incredible feat to stay the course and to challenge to the last the fastest cars built today ..."' 'For everyone else Le Mans was over, the issue decided: Atlantic, Bentley, Atlantic in the first three places. Only for Johnny - and for the five in the Bentley pit, who knew his supreme ability - was this year's Le Mans an open race.' Bibliographical note: The first edition of 'Speed Six!' was published in 1953 but this Puffin edition, first published in 1966, states on the reverse of the title page 'Rewritten specially for this edition and published in Puffin Books 1966'. It is, therefore, a different edition from that of 1953 but that date remains in the 'original publication date' so as not to upset the other editions of the book.
