Jim Manston walked calmly out of the village, never intending to come back. He was in a bad place emotionally, and suicide seemed to be the only way out. But then something happened to change his mind, and when he returned to the village … it was deserted. He saw not a single man, woman, child, dog, cat … there was just no life there at all. But that was only the start of it. When people did begin to reappear, they weren’t at all how he remembered them. These people thought and acted more like savages, and wanted only to satisfy their basest desires. For the girl called Sally it was sex with a man she had always wanted. For the rest of them it was the urge to kill and go on killing … Jim was suddenly running for his life, but he was surrounded by shadows—shadows that seemed to hide some sort of creeping, non-human horror.
