Ralph serves as a squire to the young Edmund, Earl of Rutland, the second son of the Duke of York. Edmund is more than Ralph’s lord and master, he is his dearest friend. When Edmund us junked and Gus severed head hung high over the gate of York, Ralph joins Edward of March at Mortimer's Cross to avenge his friend's death.
