Why Doesn't God Do Something . . .
Dicky McKenzie WHY DOESN'T GOD DO SOMETHING? The question comes up when personal suffering becomes unbearable. This book is about encouraging the sufferer and challenging those willing to encourage each other. Finally, civilization has progressed to see around the corner from religious intolerance and social marginalizing. Prejudicial bias is illegal, at least strongly disavowed. Most people already try to do the right thing most of the time. The next step is to work together for the greater good of everybody, especially the children. We already come together in time of crisis. Are willing to fund storm damage and famine relief. The main issue is not whether God is going to be there to keep your house from burning down. The main will the firemen get there in time. What religion, if any, doesn’t matter. You want them to save your children and your dog. This is not the time to threaten people with hellfire. Of 192 one and only true religions (circa) not one of them knows who or how many God is going to burn in hell. A basic question in the book is to formulate a righteous opinion about whether God is kind, or mean, or kind of mean? Your religion has it right...for you. No attempt will be made to disparage any religion or philosophy that works for you. We are all wrong in different places. What we know for sure...this world is our home. In my opinion God, who may or may not live in your heart...is kind. You were loved by your parents, not burned to a crisp. You love your children because you are basically kind. The next book by the same author is REMINDER TO BE KINDER. It is aimed at people who consider themselves "free spirits" bereft of religious obligations. Is okay. All are God's children. God is not going to torture his children any more than you would yours. In my book God is kind. If you can't handle that, do your own book. I say that kindly. My theology is called GONZO THEOLOGY, it’s not better or bitter, just closer to current events. Theology is man-made and progressive which is not intended as a disparaging remark. The Holy Bible is not devalued by differing opinions, as proved by many different denominations. Religious variety serves the needs of cultural diversity. Gandhi didn't accept Christianity because, partly because the West dropped the atomic bomb. He came to favor peaceful eastern religions. Yet, he crafted his life after Jesus’ mortal life on earth. Jesus got it right. Love your enemies. Be kind to those who treat you badly....and finally, the meek shall inherit the earth. WHY DOESN'T GOD DO SOMETHING? Believers know he is doing stuff all the time. Mostly anecdotally noted. Some of us see through a "glass darkly" that God is ready to bring on Apocalypse and is waiting for us to do something. That "something" is the theme and substance of the book. In the last days people don't read books much. People watch each other for clues about the meaning of life. Here's the your friends and neighbors who are agnostics and free spirits can only see Jesus…if they seem him in you. The final transformational Pentecost is when some ordinary, imperfect people are willing to be incarnated by the Spirit of God. When God does something, he doesn't use perfect people. There aren't any. Uses people like you and me. Exactly like you and me. Using me to get to you. An argument will be made God needs you even more than you need him. Jesus is ready to come. But something. . .is not right. Yet. Who is going to encourage your neighbor? I know this one. It is you! Just be a friend. The issue is not who is good or bad in the neighborhood. The issue is how long it takes for each person to evaluate mortal life and decide about immortality. It's all right to challenge the status quo, if you do it respectfully for the greater good. Things are "a'changing." I think it's a song....
