Emilio Benitez returns to his hometown of Donorbook to visit his family for Christmas. As a favor to his cousin Maria, the floor manager of Castle Bookshop, he accepts the seasonal associate position to replace a recently fired employee. He planned on returning to law school once winter break ended; he did not, however, plan on meeting Sophie. Sophie Sheng, a fellow seasonal associate at Castle Bookshop, is assigned to train him. She immediately recognizes him as the childhood crush who made her the target of bullying throughout high school.
