Featuring an introduction by John Schuerholz, biographies of 40 players and over a dozen coaches and front office executives, and writeups of 10 key games from the 1995 season. It has been 25 years since that magical night in Atlanta, October 28, 1995, when the Braves became the first team in any sport to give Atlanta a world championship. This book presents biographies of all Braves who took the field in 1995. Many had successful big-league careers; for others their time in The Show was brief. But all contributed to that championship season, and all have interesting stories. Nine players made their major-league debuts, while for three team members, that season marked the end of their careers. Four members of the team—Tom Glavine, Chipper Jones, Greg Maddux, and John Smoltz—along with manager Bobby Cox and general manager John Schuerholz, have been enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. You will find behind-the-scenes stories of many of the Braves’ front office personnel, who worked tirelessly, both at the major-league and the minor-league levels, to mold a championship organization. What this 1995 team accomplished was the pinnacle of a nearly 30-year run of excellence for the Braves, and that tradition continues. I am very pleased that SABR provided the opportunity for a dedicated group of 56 members to contribute as researchers, authors, and/or editors. —adapted from the Introduction by Tom Hufford THE PLAYERS Steve Avery by Tom Hufford Steve Bedrosian by Wynn Montgomery Rafael Belliard by Joe Cox Jeff Blauser by Creg Stephenson Pedro Borbon Jr. by Justin Krueger Terry Clark by Tony Oliver Brad Clontz by Jesse Asbury Mike Devereaux by Greg King Ed Giovanola by Clayton Trutor Tom Glavine by Joseph Wancho Marquis Grissom by Alan Morris Chipper Jones by Jacob Pomrenke David Justice by Sean Teters Mike Kelly by Joel Rippel Ryan Klesko by Joel Rippel Brian Kowitz by Jack Zerby Mark Lemke by Paul Hofmann Javy Lopez by Kyle Eaton Greg Maddux by Stew Thornley Darrell May by Darin Watson Fred McGriff by Peter M.
