Milagro pulled at Christie’s heartstrings the first time she laid eyes on him. He was a broken-down horse tied to a fence in the sweltering heat of the Baja sun. Despite being left to fend for himself, something in his soulful eyes resonated with her. She immediately understood his spirit; she recognized his resilience, and felt hope in the strength of his character. Living abroad had been hard on Christie, it wasn’t the fairy tale opportunity most people dream of. The Great Recession forced her and her husband to move for his career. And she struggled finding her footing when faced with a potentially life-changing health diagnosis. However, as fate would have it, she and Milagro met in a way that only destiny could explain, and they naturally formed a bond so few of us are ever lucky enough to experience… But eventually Christie and her husband decide to make their way back home, to the mountains, and the question has to be asked: can the horse go with them?
