I hated the lies and the pretense, but if someone like me was going to get where I wanted to be in life, it was a necessary evil. Truth was, I’d kind of made peace with the idea. It was a means to an end, and it wasn’t forever. Everybody had to do what they had to do, right? I could live with that. Kinda. Sorta. Maybe.
