In a world about to be turned upside down by the Human Genome Project, unconventional sex therapist Regina incorporates stolen pharmaceuticals into her work. Not one of her best ideas; all the women she treats develop a terrifying aversion to children. Disillusioned, she embarks on a work of scientific satire, a living exhibition of genetic poetry starting with mice and working up the evolutionary scale. Lucy, Regina's ten year old neighbour, is a dyslexic, creative genius, born into a family on the wrong side of dysfunctional. As society starts to fall apart, Lucy quits school, orphans herself, and sets to work as Regina's assistant. Lucy becomes a very powerful little girl, and life gets more twisted by the day. Finally, when human beings have tinkered with nature once too often, Junk DNA reaches an apocalyptic climax.
