Revenant War spreads across the land. What once shone brightly is lost in the darkness. The Aerokin Prophecy talks of evil which will infect and consume everything it touches - and of a woman with the power to save or condemn all. The Ballad of Darane chronicles the journey of a woman with a destiny and power she does not understand or want, as she struggles to cope with the brutality of the world she inhabits. The Basi nation – simultaneously both invaders and saviours – seek to confront the true evil of the Aerokin Prophecy, but their actions bring them into conflict with others. They face an army which has never known defeat … with disastrous consequences. Nations divide and the true face of betrayal is revealed. Darane stays hidden and seeks to retain some small semblance of what she once was. She uses her powers to save the lives of two women but, in so doing, she condemns others to death. Her powers come at a price – and it is a price she is unable to pay. The Ballad of Darane books contain little in the way of profanities or sexual references. However, the story chronicles the lead protagonist's struggle with her own sanity - a struggle which is fed by a number of graphic, disturbing and sometimes cruel events. The books include a wide cast of characters and the connections between characters and events are subtle and may not seem obvious at first. As a consequence, if you are looking for a book which provides all the answers within the first few chapters, then the Ballad of Darane series may not be the best fit for you. If, however, you like epic, layered stories and enjoy being surprised/wrong-footed, then please read on. Revenant is the fourth book in a series of nine.
