The two invitations arrive in Cabot Cove, Maine the same day. Jessica Fletcher finds the requests rather daunting: to lecture on crime fiction at a major university on the west coast, and to visit her cousin Abby and go fox-hunting in Kentucky. That's a lot of travel. But she says yes to both! In Seattle, when she discovers herself involved in an unpleasant murder case, she realizes that there are more frightening events than facing a critical audience of English faculty and students. By the time she solves that mystery she's ready for the promised holiday in Kentucky. Even there, she has to contend with a feuding family, doped horses, disputed wills, one or two possible murders, and a most peculiar suspect - the richest dog in America. Librarian's note #2: the original 'Murder She Wrote' series by James Anderson and David Deutsch has 4 volumes: #1, The Murder of Sherlock Holmes (1985); #2, Hooray for Homicide (1985); #3, Lovers and Other Killers (1986); and #4, Murder in Two Acts (1986). Anderson wrote the first three and Deutsch, the fourth. Librarian's note #3: the current 'Murder She Wrote' series by Jessica Fletcher and Donald Bain began in 1989 with #1, Gin & Daggers (there was a 2nd edition in 2000). There are 56 volumes in the current series to date (May 2023).
