Maryland Folklore and Folklife

Maryland has a great variety of folk groups. Not only is Maryland a border state, thus containing a mingling of northern and southern language traits, but within its confines there are urban ethnic groups and rural occupational groups, mountain settlements and maritime pockets, river prople and farm workers.
