Nigerian author Pemi Aguda is the winner of the 2015 Writivism Short Story Prize. The shortlist was selected from 277 entries and a longlist of 14 stories. Aguda won for "Caterer, Caterer" which brings to life a woman, a wife to an uncaring husband who has recently been deprived of both his legs and his job. He has discovered her true value to himself, and treats her with more respect than ever in their life together. She is now the breadwinner, and has been offered the catering job of a lifetime. It will pay her two months' rent on her home! And maybe even some left over to buy her husband a new wheelchair! As always in life, if something sounds too good to be true, it is. Fearsome discoveries, threatening church thugs, and a starkly simple choice are placed before the narrator: Cook or die.
