The dream of progress is at the heart of modern life. We hope and work to create a better life for ourselves and our children. This dream was born out of turmoil and strife in 18th century Europe and America. One hundred years later the Victorians optimistically believed in progress and by the end of the second half of the 20th century Europeans and Americans had experienced significant social progress. But now the optimism and the dream have faded. Was the dream just a product of a naive earlier time and something that Europe and America have grown out of? Or has it grown to be a global dream? This short book explores material and ethical progress and argues that working with other people towards goals creates purpose, hope and progress and that we should strive to make the dream real. The book is unique in using the symbol on the front cover to represents the drivers of progress. The first half discusses each driver and the second half how they work together. Combined, the chapters provide an explanation of both positive and negative progress, an answer to the mystery of why human potential only really started to be realised in the last 400 years and a guide on how to use the drivers to make progress towards your material and ethical goals.
