The Manchester Anthology 2014
Ian McGuire This collection brings together the exciting and varied work of 20 voices from the University of Manchester’s Centre for New Writing. Featuring poetry, short stories and novel extracts, think eclectic styles and diverse from bingo in Bury to frontline action in Afghanistan; from city-centre cinema-going to an impending apocalypse with an idyllic rural backdrop. The prose contributors are inspired by literary fiction, historical novels, travel writing, urban kaleidoscopes and speculative fiction, while four poets offer pieces from six lines to three pages. Including published authors, prize-winners and competition shortlistees, The Manchester Anthology is a melting pot of international talent.
"I am pleased to be associated with this Anthology. I am proud of our students and what they have achieved. I admire their effort, their commitment and their flair. You want the moment of surprise at encountering excellence in a student's work. You want that awe and even that envy; you want, lets face it, joy. It's here." Vona Groarke
