A String of Pearls

On the last night in her home, Kirstin’s thoughts travel to the past – the land where she was born, Markus her first love, a Russian officer, and Rick, her Australian husband, whom she had followed to the other side of the world after living through the horror of World War II. She thinks of her children, and of Joachim and his sad destiny. ‘Memories’, she smiles, recalling the words her father had written into her autograph album when she was a little girl. ‘Memories are the pearls of life.’
