This work consists of the proceedings of the General Court of Election of the Colony of Providence Plantations (later known as Rhode Island) on May 19-21, 1647, and the Code of Laws it adopted at that time. This provided the legal foundation for the new colony, which at that time consisted of the towns of Providence, Portsmouth, Newport, and Warwick. Parliament had granted the first charter to the colony in 1644. Editorial commentary is provided by Judge William R. Staples of the nineteenth-century Rhode Island Supreme Court. This edition contains modernized spelling and capitalization but appears to be otherwise faithful to the original. PDF by Hathi Trust Digital Library (digitalized by Google).
