This is a story about two young men who grew up together in the American and European orphanages in the Middle East during and after World War One, and randomly met again in the French city of Marseille a decade later. Armand lived in this city the entire time after leaving the orphanage, while his friend Ruben lived in the United States. Now these young men have to endure a new test of life in this strange country during the hard economic and political situation there in the mid 1930s.
