This Distant Carolling: A Story for Christmas

Geoff wallows in the disaster of his marriage to Gwen and their enforced Christmas ritual at her parents' house, hideous heaps of nephews and everyone scowling at the poor choice of husband he clearly was. Another barney with Gwen when she brings up, again, the one thing she seems to care about the one thing she hasn't got but needs, and he heads off grumpily into the snow. As he wanders through to the old town, familiar from his student days, he is taken back to a Christmas Eve he has too easily forgotten, simpler times and better thoughts. Caught in a whirl of his own hastily-taken choices in life, Geoff finds he is faced with the ultimate decision.
