R.L. Brown My Dream for Freedom is an allegoric tale told in the narrative style. It takes place in a dystopian setting in which one individual is trapped and struggling to deal with issues of race and class. While the story is grounded in part in fantasy, on the whole, it is a direct metaphor for the experiences of many people living in our world today. This story seems to transcend time, in that it could take place in the past, present or future. The story is specific enough so that one could identify with the main character, but ambiguous enough so that the main character could be any one of us living anywhere. Just like so many others in life, the protagonist in My Dream for Freedom has yet to realize who they really are as person, but they do discover that with perseverance and help from a higher power, there is a better way of life ahead.
