Kevin Akhavan Where Am I Going?
This warm, heartfelt short story is about getting lost and finding yourself again. It’s about self-doubt, resilience, and the power of a helping hand. It’s a reminder that feeling overwhelmed is natural, but it doesn’t mean you can’t keep moving forward.
“Sometimes you have to get lost before you find yourself.
The story follows Calvin, who gets left behind by his family in a foreign city. Completely lost and unsure of where to turn, he meets a stranger named James. Together, they embark on a journey to find Calvin’s family. Under the city’s bright lights and with the doubts swirling in his mind, Calvin constantly questions his ability to succeed. But sometimes, all it takes is for someone to stand by you and help keep you on your feet—and Calvin finds that support in James.
“If you keep chasing a question without an answer, you will never move forward. Let it go.”
This story is deeply personal to me, as it's my very first piece of work. I poured my emotions into every word. It’s not just about a new friendship or a journey of being lost, both mentally and physically. It’s about recognizing that you're human—and that everyone around you is too. There will be times when you can't find your purpose or even the motivation to keep going. But all it takes to get back on track is finding a light in the dark, a spring after the winter.
