With the stab of a tranquilizer, law student and orphan Michael is dropped into the twisted life an island mansion where the Aligned members of the world’s most ancient wealth keep watch and guide the continued prosperity of their Houses. The Aligned are deathless but time has not made them kind beings. Each year, they come together for their great Retreat, a time of feasting on the life-force of the young men of the current generation. For Michael, his very sanity demands he befriend the ancient and ever-young David and begin to learn what it means to be a newly born Unaligned bought by one of the great Houses of Power.
