When hopeless petty thief Billy Bumble is arrested by vengeful DI ‘Nasty’ Nash, for no good reason, his wife Allison Beatty is quick to contact Alfie Bowman, the only person she feels she can trust. But when Alfie contacts his friend DS Dave Slater he’s told Nash can’t have arrested anyone because he’s on gardening leave receiving psychiatric help! Allison was a key witness in a recent murder case which saw Nash’s father belatedly convicted of a murder committed 30 years ago. So the first question for Alfie to answer is this – Has Nasty Nash kidnapped Billy to exact revenge on Allison? While his old friend Dry Biro remains in hospital, Alfie is keeping an eye on his house. He soon becomes convinced someone has been in there, yet there’s no sign of a break-in and nothing seems to have been stolen. With the local police reluctant to take Billy’s kidnapping seriously, Alfie has to figure out if there’s a link between the mystery intruder and Billy Bumble’s kidnapping, and if there is, will it help him work out where he’s being held captive? This could be Alfie’s most dangerous mission yet as, ably assisted by best mate Positive Pete, he attempts to find and then rescue the unfortunate Billy Bumble. In this story you follow Alfie as he revisits Allison Beatty and suffers the full backlash of her persecution complex, hook up with local gangster Nugent the Nutter who’s threatening to go legit (but not before he’s had one last venture ‘out in the field’), and find out why Positive Pete has a problem with a bedside lamp! And, of course, there’s the ongoing ‘will they, won’t they’ romance between Alfie and Sophia. Can they really get past their collective hang-ups and build a lasting relationship? You definitely don’t want to miss the awesome climax in which Nugent the Nutter turns hero, and an incredulous DS Dave Slater can’t believe the story he’s being told... Who Kidnapped Billy Bumble is another entertaining Alfie Bowman story created from a recipe which includes the usual handful of odd characters, a touch of mystery, a dash of romance, and a huge helping of laughs!
