The contents of this volume appeared originally as a series of pamphlets. They were printed in Liverpool, England, from 1848 to 1851. Hundreds of thousands of the pamphlets were distributed at that time resulting in the conversion of many people. It was first compiled in book-form in 1851. Another edition was published in 1884 and it was used extensively in the mission field of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church). Since that time these books have become very scarce. There have been many requests for a new edition and in appreciation of this wide-spread demand, the undersigned with the approval of the Pratt Family Association and the sanction of the General Authorities of the Church now offers this book to the public. In 1830 the Lord commanded Orson Pratt, in a revelation given through the Prophet Joseph Smith, to declare repentance to a wicked and perverse generation preparing the way of the Lord for His second coming. He was commanded to open his mouth and spare not and to prophecy and that it would be given him by the spirit what he should say. The reader of this work will be convinced that Orson Pratt complied with the above mentioned revelation in that he was plain and bold in his defense of righteousness and truth, sparing not. Notwithstanding his plain denunciation of apostate christendom, yet his whole being was filled with love and the desire for the welfare and salvation of his fellowmen. This book will answer many perplexing questions on church doctrine and should be read by all who seek after the truth. A pamphlet entitled "THE NEW JERUSALEM" by Orson Pratt will also be ready for distribution simultaneously with this publication. May the great and mighty work of this noble apostle be the means, through this book and other volumes of his writings which will follow, of helping to spread the everlasting gospel to the nations of the earth is the sincere desire of the compiler.
