Bitter Oranges

Jack Holland, a young Irishman without a religious bone in his body and lacking even the slightest talent for the celibate life, decides - out of sheer desperation - to enter a seminary.Though it was intended merely as a temporary measure, he never quite summons the courage to leave the seminary and is - almost by default - ordained a Catholic priest. He is sent to work in a California diocese.His life among the Californians, an odyssey of shattered vows and career successes, leads him down many unexpected paths - dogged at every turn by the wrath of a vengeful power.
