Marian had planned a dignified retirement: she would play golf and spoil her grandchildren, perhaps learn to knit, or take ceramics classes. Instead, she moved to south Texas to escape the snow, and discovered cocktails and dancing. She also met Hal and, to her own amazement, fell in love again. But when Hal persuades Marian to go home with him to spend Christmas with his daughter's family, they find that not everyone shares their new-found happiness. It looks as if this will be Marian’s worst Christmas ever – but, thanks to Hal and his grandchildren, it turns out to be one of the best. (Number 4 in the Holiday Romances series of short stories)
