A delightful and touching book about giving and receiving. Granny wants to bake a cake. She has everything she needs except apples. What she does have is a tree full of plums, "the roundest and reddest that you ever saw". She sets off to market to look for apples. But first she fills a basket with the ripe, juicy plums and covers them with a snow-white napkin, for it may happen in the meantime that she will come to a place where there are apples but no plums. At the end of this story of granny's adventures is her recipe for a delicious apple cake.
