In 2013, a decrepit, abandoned former watchcase factory in a small, seaside town is undergoing an extreme renovation, to be re-imagined as a luxury apartment building. Ben, an out-of-work local, is only too happy to be hired for the partial demolition, never imagining how much of the past the building still holds. In 1896, a young woman named Jenny toils in a watchcase factory to help support her family, never imagining she might find love—and face horrific danger—as she navigates her grueling daily life.
