Tess of the d'Urbervilles: An Authoritative Text, Hardy and the Novel- Criticism

In this book, the publisher, W. W. Norton, provides us with Thomas Hardy’s Explanatory Note to the First Edition in 1891 and the Preface to the Fifth and Later Editions in 1912. The story begins. After the text, the publisher includes several of Hardy's poems and his autobiography, the Composition and Publication (which also includes Hardy's revisions from Wallace Hildick), the Criticisms from newspapers and magazines, all in 1892, ending with ten Essays in Criticism written by essayists, poets, and authors of that time. Bibliography is also included.
