We all knew it would happen someday. But now it really has happened. The world's water supply has run dry, and people are dropping dead right and left. Meanwhile, after watching his mother commit suicide, Hayvo Catappy uncovers a secret that could save humanity. Thousands of years ago, an organization of scientists placed a 900 thousand-gallon jug of water 3,000 feet under the Earth's surface. They connected 41 tunnels to the jug, hoping it would save future generations. But the scientists were mysteriously murdered, and never told anyone their plan...except Hayvo's great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather, who recorded all the information in an old, fat book. But Hayvo soons discovers there is more to this drought than meets the eye. There's one big nasty trick going on, which is part of one big nasty experiment.
