#2 A Year in Craft and Chaos
A Diamond in the Shambles
Rhiannon Holster has her eye on the prize this The Marquess of Noxshire, Laurence Brooks and his hand in marriage. Except Rhiannon doesn't truly want a marriage. She wants revenge. Because her name isn't actually Rhiannon and she isn't a lady of the ton. Rescued by pirates after a shipwreck that stole the lives of her family at a young age, she's been working to get back at the man who caused the tragedy and the best way to steal all that he took from her is to marry his son, ruin his livelihood, and kill them all. But when the truth of the Marquess' feelings for her, his father, and the nature of society come to light, she may find an unexpected ally in her quest for retribution.
This is the second short story in a year long project of experimentation with short-form storytelling and genre hopping. In 2022 I set out to write a short story in a different genre every single month. A Diamond from the Shambles was written in February 2022 with the genre Historical Fiction. As a fan of regency period books and shows, I had to put my own fun twist on the regency period with a girl raised by pirates and her journey to a Austen-worthy happy ending.
