David Chang Wants to Rock!

Previously published as Guitar Hero by Day's Lee In this coming-of-age story, 16-year-old David Chang finds that striking a balance between his dreams and his heritage is harder than striking the right chord on a guitar. David dreams of a career playing in a rock and roll band, but when his father’s gambling addiction sends the family into a financial crisis, his parents can’t afford to pay for guitar lessons. They’d rather he studied to become a “professional” ”—i.e., a lawyer or doctor anyway. To make matters worse, the guys in his band are mad at him for making a mistake that costs them a band competition. David resents his father for losing the family’s money and struggles to keep his dream alive, but eventually discovers that he and his father have more in common than he thought.
