Who Was Then the Gentleman?

The time is the 14th century, not long after the ravages of the Black Death. The place is England, sunk in the apathy of feudalism. The question -- Who was then the gentleman? -- is the whispered incitement to the violent and bloody uprising of the peasants, bled white by the tithes of the Church, the tax of the King, and the heartless levies of the feudal lords.
