That Jud!

The Maine orphan was always referred to as "that Jud", sometimes with affection by the man he lived with who believed in him, but with great exasperation by others like the housekeeper. He was lonely and built a cabin on a nearby island. But when there was a crisis in the village, he was blamed instead of praised, as he should have been.
