Itis based on events that took placebetween 1980 and 1992.The event that inspired the author towrite Iron Butterfly occurred on thelast day of her visit to Liberia. Throughcustoms, the dead-eyes of the customsofficer challenged her papers. She wasonly allowed to go through after theintervention of her Liberian friend.
