Saartown, quaint and picturesque, but not for seventeen year old Troy who is forced to move there when his widower father takes a better job. As he and his brother try to adjust to the small town from the nearby city they observe there are no churches, team sports, and the streets are empty on Sundays. Then Troy meets Sarah, outspoken and desperate to leave, and when he takes her to the city, she is mysteriously punished and they are both shunned for weeks by the town council. With the exit routes blocked by deputies, trapped, Troy discovers something sinister in Saartown and that Sarah is harbouring a centuries old secret. Both teenagers plot their escape, but if caught, face certain death.
