WHO WE ARE & WHERE WE'RE AT Since humans first started talking, we've told tales to explain who we are, our relationship to one another and the world around us, and who our gods are and what their relationship is to us. And ever since, artists have made marks on various surfaces to try to put images to these ideas. This hand-made artist's book includes some of the most well-known illustrators and photographers working in children's book, editorial and advertising image-making and graphic design responding to the theme of modern myths and gods. Stylistically, the range of mediums is from sculpture to painting, photography to photoshop, collage to colored pencils. The volume is hand-bound with a spiked black rubber cover with a hand-cut window to the front, colored rubber spine-cover, held together with three heavy bolts and cap-screws. Inside is an acetate first sheet, 36 color images, and vellum title sheets with quotes from various sources such as Joseph Campbell and Andrew Delbanco. From an edition limited to 60 copies. The artists included Tim Carroll, Joe Sorren, Christian Clayton, Calef Brown, Kathryn Fuestsch, Patrick Cunningham, Esther Watson, Philippe Lardy, Adam McCauley, Gregory Shirilla, Selina Alko, David Flaherty, Mark Todd, Eric Palma, Pamela Hobbs, David Miller, Melissa Iwai, Steven Dana, Russell Jones, David Goldin, Dave Calver, Courtney Granner, John Weber, Josh Gosfield, Sunshine, Victoria Kann, Robert Neubecker, Stephen Webster, Hungry Dog Studio, Katherine Streeter, Tom Garrett, Rob Clayton, Dan Yaccarino, Tim Cook, Michael Sloan, and Rick Sealock.
