#1 Henry Garnish
Murder Among Friends
Frank McConnell Harry Garnish, Chicago private investigator, considers himself more a snoop than a detective, since he spends most of his time investigating insurance claims and shadowing suspect spouses. However, Harry falls heir to a murder case and more when his best friend, another private eye, dies at the hand of a brutal assassin. Harry doesn't handle the responsibility well, but his boss (a former nun) and his arch rival (a Skokie police detective) combine forces to solve the case with him, despite Harry's help. Murder Among Friends is old-fashioned mystery fun in a modern Chicago setting.
