The City of Man: Purgatorio

In Book II: Purgatorio, Savonarola establishes a theocratic republic with Jesus Christ as King. He struggles with Florentine aristocrats to build a new republic based on God's laws as stated in the Bible. He becomes the most powerful leader in Florentine politics and organizes the Bonfire of the Vanities. Machiavelli allies with the powerful Soderini family to help steer Florentine politics.
