The librarian Gerbert Rodin from the mountain community of Vanndal somehow finds himself in the Egyptian desert with a mysterious woman. Gert Nygårdshaug (1946–) has had a fascinating and original literary career. His wide-ranging knowledge and fertile imagination have found expression in six collections of poetry, two short story collections, several adventure stories and a number of novels, including Mengele Zoo (Mengele Zoo), 1989 and Prost Gotvins geometri (Priest Gotvin’s Geometry), 1998. In 2007 Mengele Zoo was voted the people’s favourite in Norway. When Priest Gotvin’s Geometry was released in Denmark in 1999, a united press placed Nygårdshaug in the same league as literary giants like Umberto Eco and Peter Høeg and the Norwegians Jan Kjærstad and Erik Fosnes Hansen. Gert Nygårdshaug is considered one of Norway’s finest crime authors. His distinctive language, and interest in archeology, cultural history, science, and, not least, food and drink, have given him a dedicated group of fans throughout his 20 years as a crime author.
