Robert E. Howard Robert E. Howard (1906-1936) was born in Texas and spent his relatively short life in that State. He began writing at the age of 15, and sold his first story to Weird Tales, which subsequently published the bulk of his work. He was a rapid and prolific writer - of fantasy, of adventure and Western fiction, of sporting stories, and of poems. Such characters as Conan, Solomon Kane, Bran Mak Morn, Brule the Spear-Slayer, King Kull, Sailor Steve Costigan and Breckinridge Elkins made a place for Howard in the genre of the robust adventure tale. Howard's first book was a collection of the Breck Elkins stories, A Gent from Bear Creek, published only in England. His second was the omnibus of his best work, Skull-Face and Others, published by Arkham House in 1946. Since that time Gnome Press have published the Conan stories in The Coming of Conan, Conan the Barbarian, The Sword of Conan, King Conan, and Conan the Conqueror.
Glenn Lord, who collected Howard's poems, was born November 17, 1931 at Pelican, Louisiana. He is a vetran of Korean "police action," and is currently studying towards his B.S. at Lee College in Texas, while employed at Champion Paper & Fibre Company at Pasedena, Texas.
