Family Ties

Family Ties takes the lid off growing up in twentieth centiry Britain. From the trenches of the First World War a family emerges which experiences and reflects the tensions and ambiguities of a changing society. The single-minded determination of a mother, the treachery of a lover, the hedonism of a daughter, the conventional stability of a sister combine with differing experiences of life beyond Britain. This novel explores both the ties that hold families together - for better, for worse, in sickness and in health - and the tensions that tear them apart.
