Jackie Logan, a high school junior, suddenly finds that her life in a small Connecticut town has become complicated by her ardent desire to be a champion tennis player. Caught in the conflict between those who favor team sports and those who endorse tennis, Jackie becomes the butt of a faculty conflict, while her own searing need to win alienates her from herself and maturity. It is only when she stops using tennis as a defense that she really approaches championship standards and qualifies as a human being. A good love story, lavish tennis detail, and a convincing portrait of teen-age megalomania add up to a better than average teen-age romance. (Kirkus)
