The professions covered in this issue include therapists (Steve Almond), phlebotomists (Annie McFayden), bartenders (Rhoda Huffey), immigration officials (Sharon May), doctors (T.E. Holt), Noh actors (William T. Vollmann), skateboarders (Bret Anthony johnston), lowbrow publishers (Lee Montgomery), and the Grim Reaper (Billy Collins). In a departure for us, the cover and interior illustrations were all done by the hardest-working man in graphite—Daniel Duford. We hope that the entire issue showcases the craft of writing, reminding us that the best practitioners choose their tools with care and strike with precision.
