Mark Twain called Anne of Green Gables “the sweetest creation of child life yet written.” It’s imm popularity is proof that many people, like Mark Twain, have fallen under the spell of Anne’ charm. The cherished Canadian classic of a young orphan girl who goes to live in Prince Edward Island has sold millions of copies since it was first published in 1908 and has been translated into many other languages. The first of L.M. Montgomery’s books about Anne Shirley, it was written on an old typewriter that couldn’t type capitals or the letter ‘m’.
