Dr. Martin Hanbury is a research gerontologist, that is to say, an expert on the science of ageing. For seven years he had been researching how and why our bodies age, without too much success. However, purely by chance part of a 30 year old scientific paper is discovered by his postgraduate research assistant. The paper hints at a possible serum which would be virtually an 'elixir of life'. Dr. Hanbury sets off on a quest to find the rest of the document and its author. This takes Hanbury across Europe to France and Switzerland and eventually to Italy. However, it would appear that there are some people or organisations who will stop at nothing to prevent Hanbury from learning the truth about this serum.
