Messages from the superior state : communicated by John Murray, through John M. Spear, in the summer of 1852 ; containing important instruction to the inhabitants of the earth ; carefully prepared for publication, with a sketch of the author's earthly life, and a brief description of the spiritual experience of the medium I may here say, that, on examination of the works of Murray, * and comparing the style with that of these messages, a somewhat remarkable resemblance is, in some respects, presented between them. The sentences are, for the most part, long and involved, and peculiarities in words and phrases are not unfrequently in a striking manner similar. And when those who are acquainted with Mr. Spear's style of writing, and know it to be the very Opposite of this (his periods being, nearly always, very brief), shall compare the two, they may, perhaps, see in this a circumstance Of some account in confirming the justice of the profession that these are messages from the Superior State.
