Structured like a sestina with six sections of six poems each and a seventh section of three poems, Mad Sestina King weaves around and around itself with themes in a narrative fashion within the intricacies of language and art; family and friends; desire, romance, and departure; the mundane mixed with the murderous; the richness and depth of culture; the personalities of the wild and wicked; and, of course, sestinas themselves. Narrated in a voice that is alternately comic, ironic, foreboding, poignant, passionate, and detached, Mad Sestina King promises the reader a wild journey provided by the versatile skills of a troubadour who possesses a variety of tricks and maneuvers within his story-telling sleeves.
